Hundreds of commuters were stranded at Orchard MRT station and other Marina Bay-bound stations due to train faults.
Passengers at City Hall station were told to disembark from their train at around 6.55pm after being told that there was a delay. However, the trains remained immobile until 7.40pm when it was finally announced that there was no train service.
This was followed by long queues as hundreds of commuters attempted to get refunds for their trips. Many then tried to take taxis to their destination, creating snaking queues at Raffles City.
'I am so annoyed. How can it be that there is no service at all, what's worse, it's peak hour. Are they going to pay for my peak hour cab fare?' said teacher Quek Hui Min, 24.
