Stomp : An accident happened at the junction of Airport Road today

An accident happened at the junction of Airport Road today (Nov 30) at about 11am, leaving one dead and one taken to hospital.

STOMPer naz sent in these photos, saying:

"I saw this scene at about 11am today in front of the ComfortDelGro Driving Centre in Kaki Bukit.

"An ambulance arrived shortly and I saw what looked to be a death tent being erected in the vicinity."

In response to a STOMP query, police said:

"Police received a call today at about 11am informing us of an accident at the junction of Airport Road.

"Upon police arrival, it was established to be an accident involving an army vehicle, a car and a lorry.

"The driver of the lorry, a 23-year-old Chinese man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The driver of the car was conveyed conscious to Changi General Hospital.

"Police investigations are ongoing."

News : Mnet Asian music awards 2011 result

On November 29th, Mnet hosted its 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards (‘MAMA‘) at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, attracting stars and performers from both Korea and around the world.

This year, the awards ceremony tried out something new by having 20 presenters instead of official MCs to host the show. These presenters were comprised of Korea’s top actors and TV personalities, who helped distribute the awards to the winning artists.

Dr. Dre was the production powerhouse behind artistes such as Eminem, Tupac and Snoop Dogg. He won the coveted Producer of the Year Award Grammy in 2000. Dr. Dre is also the founder and co-creator of Beats by Dr. Dre line of premium trendy looking headphones and speakers.

California native Snoop Dogg was first introduced to the world through Dr. Dre’s multi-platinum album, The Chronic. The Hip Hop performer’s first No. 1 album Doggystyle made him one of the popular celebrities of his genre. The 10-times Grammy-nominated rap mogul continues to break records. Snoop Dogg is the fourth most influential celebrity on Twitter. This December, Snoop Dogg will be releasing a soundtrack of the movie which he is appearing in, Mac and Devin Go to High School, with Wiz Khalifa.

Other Asian stars who will be gracing the 2011 MAMA include Japan’s top female singer Koda Kumi, Zhang Liang Ying, (China’s version of Mariah Carey), world-renown pianist Lang Lang and Singapore’s Dick Lee and Fann Wong.

It's a given that Beyonce and Jay-Z's baby is going to be one of the most spoiled children ever to crawl the Earth. Not because his or her parents are out of touch with reality, because they're stupid rich dagnabbit and so are their friends -- why shouldn't that tyke be spoilt to the core? The latest gift bestowed upon Baby Z? Oh, it was just a $5,200 pink Swarovski crystal bathtub from pal Kelly Rowland, because, oops, she accidentally revealed the sex of the couple's baby.

Now, I'm not much of a "crystal" girl, so even if I had Bey and Jay cash, not so sure I would buy something like this, but this lavish pre-baby present did get me thinking about my own eventual baby shower and what I should register for. Is all of this crap really necessary?

To be honest, the thought of having a baby shower has always terrified me. Not because I don't like gathering with friends in pretty dresses, eating delicious food, and opening up gifts. Because I have no idea whatsoever what the hell I'm supposed to get my unborn child. What's essential for baby? What's non-essential for me? It seems like shower gifts have gotten more and more elaborate over the years. And it seems like a lot of gifts are really more for the mommy than for the baby. Case in point: A crystal-encrusted baby tub.

To my knowledge, Beyonce didn't register or ask for this ridiculous ostentatious gift for her child (though I'm sure she doesn't hate it), so it seems like a bit of an odd thing to give her as a baby gift, because, after all, I'm sure her little girl -- yes, Beyonce's having a little girl -- would be just as happy being washed in the sink. The fancy-shmancy tub is for Beyonce. And for Kelly. Who can now say she's given her friend one of the most luxuriant presents of all time.

I don't think there's anything wrong with cute baby onesies or the most beautiful crib a whittler has ever whittled. But I do think it's important to remember that such gifts are for you, not your baby. After all, the only thing they need is you.

That said, I still have no idea what the hell to register for!

News: Body of old man found floating in waters around Marina Bay

Body of old man found floating in waters around Marina Bay

On Nov 26, workers found a body floating in the waters around Marina Bay at 8am. This case comes shortly after a badly decomposed body was found in the Pandan Reservoir.

Lianhe Wanbao reported that the body in Marina Bay was of an ethnic Chinese man in his 70s. He was found wearing a short-sleeved collared shirt and beige trousers.

According to the evening paper, the man is believed to have been dead for sometime as his body was cold and stiff when recovered by the police.

It has been classified as an unnatural death, and police are still verifying his identity with investigations still ongoing.

Apart from the body found in Pandan Reservoir on Nov 23, six other bodies were also discovered in separate incidents in the Bedok Reservoir.

On Nov 5, the body of a man was found.

On Oct 25, the body of an elderly woman in her 50s was found floating in the waters.

On Oct 10, an Indian man's body was found at Bedok Reservoir.

On Sept 22, the bodies of a mother and son were seen floating in the Bedok Reservoir.

On June 22, the lower half of Mr Lin Xiao's body was found floating in the water by a PUB employee.

Singapore Police makes 1st arrest based on Facebook tip-off

Newspapers, television programmes and posters in public places have helped the police nab hundreds of suspects over the years.

Now, social media has proven to be another effective platform with the police making their first arrest after receiving information from an appeal on Facebook. The information had been posted on the Singapore Police Force's Facebook page in July 2009.

Besides the popular social networking site, the police also appealed for information through traditional channels, with a press release sent out in 2009. A fortnight ago, a member of the public called 999, saying he could identify a suspected loan shark from the photo on Facebook. This led to the arrest of two suspects - both aged 19 - on Wednesday for suspected involvement in loanshark harassment activities in the Bukit Merah area. Investigations are ongoing, a statement released by police on Friday stated.

Ms Ng Guat Ting, the police force's director of public affairs, said the police are grateful to the member of the public who provided the critical tip-off. 'This is indeed public-spiritedness in cyberspace. We are confident that more cases will be solved through this e-partnership with the community,' she said.

News: Man arrested for murder at MRT station

Man arrested for murder at MRT station

Police arrested a 55-year-old man on Wednesday evening, in connection with the death of a woman at Jurong East MRT station.

The 62-year-old woman was found earlier about 2.35pm with stab wounds and taken to the National University Hospital, where she died later from her injuries.

Both work as cleaners at the station.

It is not clear if the murder weapon was found at the scene.

97.4% PSLE passes, top student from Rulang Primary

Two Indian pupils came in number one and two in the nation for this year's Primary School Leaving Examination.

Yasmin Ziqin Mohamed Yousoof from Rulang Primary came in top in the nation with 283 points, one point ahead of Muzammil Arif Din Abdul Jabbar from Anglo-Chinese School (Primary).

Overall, the results for this year's PSLE cohort were similar to those of last year's batch.

Of the 45, 261 Primary 6 pupils who took the exam this year, 97.4 per cent or 44,106 pupils did well enough to move on to secondary school.

SINGAPORE - The Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results were released today, and 97 per cent of students who sat the exam passed and qualify to move on to secondary schools.

The cohort's top student was Yazmin Ziqin Mohamed Yousoof from Rulang Primary School, with a score of 283.

She is also the top Indian pupil.

The top Chinese student is Hannah Tan Jia Hwee from Raffles Girls' Primary School, while the top Malay pupil is Natalia Nadila Muhamad from St Hilda's Primary School and the top Eurasian pupil is Bjorn Kaijun Betzler from Anglo-Chinese School.

The Ministry of Education said that of the 45,261 who sat the PSLE this year, 62.9 per cent have made it to the Express course.

Another 23.1 per cent will head for the Normal (Academic) stream while 11.4 per cent are moving on to the Normal (Technical) course.

MOE said 1,555 pupils did not pass the PSLE and will go for vocational training.

Parents can submit secondary school options for their child at the primary schools.

Malaysia Lose 2-0 to Syria
Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia's exertions in their SEA Games gold-medal winning campaign took its toll on Ong Kim Swee's side as the Young Tigers went down 2-0 at home to Syria in their Group C clash in the third round of AFC Asian qualifiers for the 2012 London Olympics on Wednesday.

Malaysia were on a high after defeating hosts Indonesia on penalties to retain their SEA Games title on Monday but spot-kick hero Khairul Fahmi, one of 13 players in the squad at the regional multi-sport event, was beaten seven minutes into the second-half as Solaiman Solaiman gave Syria the lead.

The Kelantan keeper was picking the ball out the back of the Malaysian net for a second time with two minutes left to play when substitute Nassouh Nakkdahli, an 81st minute replacement for Mardek Mardkian, sealed the 2-0 win.

Wednesday's win at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium was Syria's second of the third round of qualifiers to keep level with Japan, who maintained their 100% record with a 2-0 victory over Bahrain in Manama on Tuesday.
