Apple’s larger iPhone 5 ‘coming in March’

Apple's iPhone 5 is rumoured to feature a larger screen than the existing iPhone 4

New, larger screens have begun to ship for use in Apple’s iPhone 5, respected sources have reported.

The decision to use a larger screen for the new iPhone would put the Apple device in line with the majority of top Google Android phones. A 4” LCD panel would be an increase of 0.5” on the current iPhone 4S, and compare more favourably with top-selling devices such as the 4.2” Samsung Galaxy SII and the Motorola Razr’s 4.3” screen.

The change would also be in line with reports that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was working on a “radical redesign” of the iPhone up until very shortly before his death earlier this year.

Japanese blog, Macotakara claim that Hitachi Displays and Sony Mobile Display Corporation have begun to ship the displays for a “new iOS device.” Both companies are also known to be working on screens for the iPad 3.

Conflicting rumours, however, have suggested that the iPhone 5 may adopt either a new, teardrop shape or simply be an enlarged iPhone 4S. iLounge, a respected Apple blog, claims the new model will be 8mm longer and use an aluminium metal case, citing rumours from Digitimes.

When users will find out for certain is also subject to debate; a March launch has been suggested for the iPhone by a number of blogs, who have also suggested it for the iPad 3. Hexus, however, has claimed that Apple could make a rare announcement at February’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The latest iOS software contains references to a new iPad, iPhone and Apple TV.

Previous rumours had suggested that the launch of the iPhone 4S was originally planned to be for the more comprehensively redesigned product iPhone 5. Floods and other events disrupting the supply chain, however, may have been behind Apple's decision to launch the upgraded 4S, but upgrade patterns for the original iPhone have adopted a similarly incemental cycle.

LONDON (AFP) - British unions claimed that up to two million public sector workers went on strike on Wednesday over changes to their pensions after the government responded to slashed growth forecasts with fresh spending cuts.

In what unions called the biggest walkout in decades, thousands of schools were shut, hospitals operated with minimum staffing levels and local authorities were paralysed, although the government contested the unions' figures.

Thousands of workers marched through central London and Manchester, north-west England, during the 24-hour strike. However, fears of long delays at London's Heathrow airport, one of the world's busiest air passenger hubs, failed to materialise as most immigration officials turned up for work.

Ferry ports and cross-Channel rail services linking Britain to continental Europe also operated largely as normal. The strike is the biggest test so far of Prime Minister David Cameron's Conservative-Liberal Democrat government, which sparked the unions' fury by making public sector workers pay more into their pensions and work longer.

STOMPer Ahshy came across the Facebook page of a 12-year-old girl, who posted comments online about punching her mother in the face.

In a previous incident, a 14-year-old girl bragged online about slapping her mother, and stealing her mother's jewellery to buy a Louis Vuitton wallet.

Following this, several netizens coming out to say that they too had hit their mothers.

Says the STOMPer:

"Another pai kia girl or trying to get some attention?

"Another teenager posting on Facebook about how she hates her mother and punched her mother in the face.

"Worst of all, this girl is only 12 years old.

"Younger version of the pai kia girl who boasted about slapping her mum.
"I seriously dislike people who mistreat their parents. I look down on them.

"Teenagers are becoming worse and wore.

"Slapping parents, scolding their own parents with vulgarities."
